RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Mortimer Douglas Robertson "Mort," 88, passed away Thursday afternoon, Oct. 14, 2021, at Cooperstown Center, Cooperstown, with his loving wife at his side.

He was born on March 18, 1933, in Utica, son of the late William H. and Irene V. Purchase Robertson.

Raised in Van Hornesville, Mort graduated with the Van Hornesville Central School Class of 1951.

On Nov. 19, 1954, he entered the U.S. Army during the Berlin Crisis. He served until Oct. 30, 1956, being honorably discharged and attaining the rank of private first class.

On Dec. 15, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Rowena Smith in Van Hornesville. They made their home in Van Hornesville until 1960 when they moved to Richfield Springs.

Mr. Robertson had a strong faith in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs.

From the time he was a young boy he always had a fascination with trucks. In 1958 he purchased his own truck and started the Mort Robertson Bulk Milk Hauling Company. He owned and operated the company until 1978. He then sub contracted his truck working independently for Dallas-Mavis Trucking of South Bend, Indiana, until 1991 when he retired.

All who knew Mort will never forget the kind, gentle and honest man that he was. Any conversation with him was straight and to the point yet you always felt his warmth and friendship whenever you were with him. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family especially his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Rowena; three sons, David Robertson and his wife, Lorraine of Richfield Springs, Daniel Robertson of Cooperstown, Dale Robertson and Sherry of Holly Hills, Florida; one daughter, Carol Ainslie and her husband, Chet of Richfield Springs; a daughter-in-law, Monica Robertson and her companion, Len Pickens of Richfield Springs; five grandchildren, Candice Domion, Jacob and his wife, Megan, Jeremy Robertson, Kyle Robertson and Will Robertson; four great-grandchildren, Alexia Luke, Aedan Osborn, Dean A. Robertson and Lincoln Robertson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son, Dean Robertson; two brothers, Donald C. and Harold S. Robertson; and one sister, Evelyn Peckham.

Calling hours for Mr. Robertson will be from 3 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21, at J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St.; Richfield Springs.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 22, at Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs with the Rev. Casey Bradley, pastor, officiating.

Interment, with military honors provided by the U.S. Army, will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs.
