Orlando Lopes Legname ONEONTA - Dr. Orlando Lopes Legname, 51, passed away at home on Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing. He was the son of Orlando Legname and Angela Brait Lopes Legname. Dr. Legname, a noted composer, conductor and theorist, taught at the State University of New York, Oneonta for 15 years, where he served as the founder and Director of the Audio Arts Production Program, Director of the Chamber Orchestra, and Department Chair. Dr. Legname was noted for his innovative work on the development of new electronic music instruments, augmented conducting techniques, graphic music notation and as an Avid Certified Pro Tools Expert. He was recipient of the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Creative Activities, the Susan Sutton Smith Award for Academic Excellence, and the Academic Excellence Award for Innovative Uses of Instructional Technology. In addition, Dr. Legname received several honors for his compositions, which have been performed in the United States, Italy, Ireland, Spain and Brazil. Dr. Legname earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition from the University of Maryland. He had recently completed studies on augmented musicianship at the prestigious Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique in Paris. Dr. Legname is survived by his loving wife, Ms. Anna Legname, a rehabilitation counselor who works at SUNY Oneonta; two beloved children, daughter Natalia, son, Caio; his father, Orlando Legname; a brother, Jose Carlos Lopes Legname; two sisters, Maria Salete Legname de Paulo and Angela Christina Legname Barbour; his mother-in-law, Matilde Bezerra Lima, all of Brazil; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his mother. Dr. Legname was proud to become an American Citizen on Oct. 24, 2014.
