SOUTH VALLEY - Patricia Anne Norton Mabie, of South Valley, passed away at home in the early hours on Friday, July 11, 2025, after a brief battle with ALS.
Patricia was born in East Worcester on April 26, 1942, to Leon and Bertha (Hill) Norton. She attended East Worcester School and on April 27, 1958, she married Leland George Mabie in the South Valley First Christian Church in South Valley. Leland and Pat took over the family farm, Patle Farm, where they operated their dairy business and raised their family.
Pat was very active in the community, serving as president of the South Valley Women's Community Club, Town of Roseboom Historian, volunteer at the Cherry Valley Museum, Historian for the Otsego Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, assistant secretary of South Valley-Pleasant Brook Union Cemetery, and the Otsego Republican Committee. Among her many passions, Pat was an avid genealogist, author, wood worker, crafter, pie maker, member of the Breezie Acres Bowling team, clerk at Cherry Vally Agway and Lonesome Whistle Train Shop, childcare provider, and many other jobs, as well as the baker of many wedding and special occasion cakes.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Leland George; daughter Debra (Mark) Anderson; sons, Leland Fred (Fran) Mabie and Thomas (Kelly) Mabie; grandchildren, Elena (Keith) Sheldon, Kevin (Brandi) Mabie, Jordan and Joslyn Mabie, Christopher (Abigail) and Annalia Anderson; great-grandchildren Hannah, Ethan, and Holly Sheldon and Aria and Tyler Mabie; sisters, Betty Miller, Sandra (Raymond) Sutton; brothers Robert (Betty) and David Norton; sister-in-law Marjorie French; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Gerald Norton.
Calling hours will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, followed by a service at 1 p.m. at Ottman Funeral Home, 22 Church Street, Cherry Valley. A committal service will be held immediately after at South Valley-Pleasant Brook Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pat's memory to South Valley-Pleasant Brook Union Cemetery or the Cherry Valley Museum.

Plant a tree: How does it work

When your purchase is complete, a post will be made on the tribute wall of the deceased signifying the planting of a memorial tree.

An official certificate recognizing your purchase will be included with your email receipt. You can then forward the email to the family or print it and give it to them personally.

After an order is placed, our forestry partners will plant the tree in the area of greatest need (nearest the funeral home), according to the planting schedule for the year.

Due to seasonal conditions, the tree planting takes place during the spring and summer.
