Ragnhild Margareta Ericson Obituary

Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Ragnhild Ericson, 89, of Oneonta, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

Born Ragnhild Margareta Oscarsson in Borås, Sweden, she grew up surrounded by the rich traditions of Swedish life. A lifelong learner with a love for numbers, gardening and the culinary arts, she earned her associate degree in bookkeeping in Stockholm and also attended culinary school, nurturing a passion for cooking that would stay with her throughout her life.

In 1963, she married her beloved husband, Rolf Ericson (who predeceased her in 2018), in Stockholm. Shortly afterward, the couple moved to Madrid, Spain, where Rolf began his career with Atlas Copco. During their seven years in Spain, they welcomed their two children, Peter and Karin, into the world.

In 1970, the family relocated to the United States, settling just outside New York City, where Rolf continued his work for the Swedish company. Ragnhild dedicated herself to raising their children while adapting to life in a new country.

Their journey eventually brought them to Oneonta in 1977, drawn by the region's natural beauty, snowy winters, and the warmth of small-town life. That same year, they took a bold step and purchased Seeley's Ceramics, a manufacturer of ceramic supplies. What followed was a remarkable period of growth and innovation. Under their leadership, Seeley's expanded into a thriving company with 65 employees, known internationally for its porcelain dollmaking supplies and instructional resources. Ragnhild led marketing and product development, helping launch dollmaking conventions and festivals that drew enthusiasts from around the world. The company hosted its first international doll show within a year of their arrival, and over time these events evolved into major conventions, including those held at SUNY Oneonta and the Concord Resort Hotel, drawing more than a thousand attendees at their peak.

After three decades of dedication, Ragnhild and Rolf sold the business and retired, but their commitment to community did not end there. They shared a deep love of classical music and hosted monthly gatherings to introduce friends and neighbors to composers, share musical insights and enjoy each other's company, turning these events into cherished local traditions.

Ragnhild is remembered for her creativity, determination, warmth and sense of community.

She is survived by her son, Peter Ericson, and his wife, Colleen; daughter, Karin Goulian, and her husband, Michael; three grandchildren, Emily, Finn and Axel; sister, Eva Oscarsson; brother, Stefan Oscarsson, and his wife, Lisbet; brother-in-law, Allan Ericson, and his wife, Mia; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Her legacy of entrepreneurship, cultural celebration, and devotion to family and friends lives on in all who knew her.

A commemorative reception will be held in Oneonta, for family and friends Aug. 16. If you wish to attend, please contact Karin or Peter.
