DeLANCEY - Robert Harold Doyle, 88, of Back River Road, DeLancey, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Mr. Doyle was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Hancock, a son of Lawrence and Mary Frances (Rose) Doyle.

He graduated from Walton Central High School and later served in the United States Army as a corporal.

Upon his honorable discharge, Bob began a long career with S.J. Bailey Furniture Factory in Walton, retiring in 1992 after 40 plus years.

He was an active member and elder of the Hamden Presbyterian Church for 60 years. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post No. 0032 in Walton and enjoyed chair caning and furniture refinishing. His favorite hymn was "You'll Never Walk Alone." Bob enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years and was an avid Yankees fan.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara (Aikens) Doyle; three sisters, Shirley DeSilva, Patricia Knapp, both of Walton and Betty (Walter) Thompkins of Downsville; brother-in-law, William (Wanda) Aikens of Delhi; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In keeping with Bob's request, there will be a graveside service at 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, in the Hamden Cemetery followed by a gathering at the Hamden Town Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Hamden Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 6754 Basin Clove Road, Hamden, NY 13782.
