Robert Jay Miller Obituary

DELHI - Robert Jay Miller, 79, of Delhi, passed away July 29, at Basset Hospital in Cooperstown, after a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 15, 1944, to Donald and Marjorie (Howard) Miller in Delhi and lived all his life in Delaware County. He was a 1962 graduate of Delhi Academy, and he spent 22 years working for the town of Delhi Highway Department. After his retirement, he kept busy working part-time as a driver for Rolling V Bus Corporation.

Bob was an avid reader and especially loved reading books about history and the North Country. He was a sports fan as well, always rooting for the Duke University men's basketball team and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.

He met his partner, Ferrissa Sheldon, in 1997, and he enjoyed travelling to county fairs, casinos, taking bus trips to New York City, and visiting the Adirondacks with her until her passing in 2023. Together they enjoyed meals and adventures with their respective sisters, cousins, and their spouses.

Affectionately known as Pop and Poppy, he never missed an opportunity to attend a concert, play, Halloween parade, graduation, track meet, or T-ball game in support of his grandchildren. He enjoyed campfires and meals with his family "at the farm" in Otego, and he loved to joke around with his sons-in-law. Most recently, he enjoyed getting his daily morning coffee and newspaper with his group of friends at McDonald's. Bob loved to talk about local and national politics, his school days in Delhi, and growing up on the family farm. Bob's sense of humor and laid-back demeanor made everyone feel welcome, and we will miss him so very much.

Bob is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Miller, his sister, Margaret Dent, her children, Laurie Burrows and Eric Miller, his uncle, Arthur Howard and many dear cousins. In addition, he leaves behind Ferrissa's daughters, who loved him as their own: Joan-Marie Seidel and her husband Eric; Erin Sheldon and son-in-law Allan Barnes; and Sarah Hughs. Greatly missing him are his grandchildren, Sophia, Elias, Finley, and Hudson.

He is predeceased by his companion of 27 years, Ferrissa Sheldon; brother-in-law Charlie Dent; and a son-in-law, Jamie Hughs.

A special thank you to Colleen and Al Edwards, and Robert Matthews for assisting him during these last few weeks. His gratitude and appreciation ran deep.

Friends and relatives are invited to call from 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Aug. 9, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, 134 Main St., Delhi, where a service will follow at noon.
