Robert Sickler Obituary

OCALA, Fla. - Robert "Bob" Sickler, 80, passed away on March 4, 2025 in Ocala, Florida, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife and daughters during his final moments.

Born on Sept. 11, 1944 in Cooperstown, Bob grew up in Franklin, where he attended Franklin Central School. His classmates recognized his warm and engaging personality early on, voting him "Best All Around," a title he carried throughout his life with his good-natured spirit and playful sense of humor.

Bob proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1962 to 1966 as a jet aircraft engine mechanic with the 51st Field Maintenance Squadron. His service exposed him to Agent Orange, which later contributed to his illness. Despite this hardship, Bob remained resilient and dedicated himself to a life of hard work and service.

Following his military career, Bob pursued a diverse and accomplished professional life. He served as a Texas Ranger before transitioning into careers as a truck driver, general contractor and expert in monument design and restoration. His craftsmanship and dedication left lasting marks on the communities he served.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Bob had many passions that brought him joy. He was an avid woodworker who took pride in creating intricate pieces. He also enjoyed games, string art, model kit assembly, golfing, fishing, hunting and genealogy research - each hobby reflecting his curiosity and skillful hands.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Sickler of Ocala, Florida; daughters Ronda Zuk (Patrick) of Franklin, Rebecca Schultz (Dennis) of Moravian Falls, North Carolina, and Robinette Youngs (Danny) of Mt. Upton; stepdaughters Kathy Yager (Bruce) of Lawson, Missouri, and Julie Ackley of Parkville, Missouri. He also leaves behind many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.

He was predeceased by his parents Edward and Eldora Sickler of Franklin; his first wife Rita Sickler of Lubbock, Texas; brothers David and Richard Sickler of Franklin; grandsons Christian Miller (Youngs) of Franklin, Brett Yager of Lawson, Missouri; and great grandson Beau Yager of Lawson, Missouri.

A visitation will be held 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., March 21, at Beyers Funeral Home 134 N US Highway 441, Lady Lake, Florida. Immediately following the visitation, a military burial ceremony will take place at Bushnell National Cemetery to honor Bob's service to his country. A celebration of life will be held at a later date for friends and family in New York.

Bob was known for his kind heart and easygoing nature. Always ready to lend a helping hand or share a teasing remark with those he loved, he touched many lives with warmth and generosity. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
