Roger L. Erway Obituary
Middlefield, NY - Roger Lee Erway, a loving father, grandfather, and lifelong farmer, went home to be with his beloved bride, Beverly, on April 2nd, 2026, after a long and resilient battle with COPD and other chronic illnesses.
He was born October 13th, 1942, in Endicott, New York, the son of Creditt Erway Sr. and Frutilla (Kent) Erway. Roger attended Cherry Valley School, where he met the love of his life, Beverly. He often shared stories of walking miles from the "cauliflower farm" into South Valley to see his high school sweetheart. They were married on September 28th, 1962, in Grand Gorge, and built a life together rooted in love and hard work.
Roger enlisted in the United States Army in 1963 and proudly served in Augsburg, Germany until 1965.
Upon returning home, he worked for the Hunter Bakery and the Baker and Hadden Farm in Roxbury.
They purchased their farm on Cornish Hill on October 30th, 1970, and worked the land alongside their children. He also served his community as a bus driver for Cooperstown Central School and dedicated 39 years to the Otsego Electric Cooperative Board of Directors.
Roger found great joy in harnessing his Belgian draft horses for family wagon rides and community
events. Many fond memories were made at Titus Lake and on trips to Lancaster. He enjoyed a good
auction or antique tractor show, catching up with friends. He loved the Yankees and was known for his
"Roger-isms," which brought laughter and wisdom to those around him. He loved his children and
grandchildren deeply.
Roger is survived by his children, Ken Rutan, Michael J. Erway, Terry (Debbie) Erway, Rodney L. Erway (Michelle Crippen), Amy M. (Robert) Dabreau, and Angie L. Erway (Daniel Roseboom); his
grandchildren, Myles Erway, Emma, Ava and Aiden Dabreau, Wylder, Addyson, Aspen, Damian, and
Aaliyah Roseboom, and Matthew Armlin; his sisters, Jeanetta Burroughs, Carol Bouck, and Sandra
Bronson; his brother, Creditt Erway Jr.; his sisters-in-law, Joan Hoke, Shirley Webster, Norine Lundy, Dale Webster and Londa Webster; his brothers-in-law, Barry Webster and John Webster; and several nieces, nephews, and dear family friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Beverly Erway; his parents; and his brothers Charles, Harold, and Clarence.
Roger's life was rooted in the land, shaped by hard work, and measured in the love he had for his
family.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are with Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown.
