Ronald Earl Embling (Ron) Obituary
Floral City, FL - FLORAL CITY, Florida - Ronald Earl Embling died on Nov. 14, 2025 in Inverness, Florida. He was born Jan. 15, 1939 in Churchville, to George and Helen (Squires) Embling.
Ron married Judith Annette Green in Rochester in 1958, graduated from Buffalo State University in 1962 with a degree in teaching, and spent several years as a shop teacher at Churchville-Chili High School. In 1969 he received a masters degree in Graphic Arts from Indiana University, and in 1970 moved to Otego, taking a job at SUNY Oneonta leading the Graphic Arts Department. In his spare time, Ron enjoyed many hobbies, wood working and clock restoring, but Ron was passionate about cars. He restored and owned a 1921 Ford Model T for several years before moving on to his true love, MG sports cars. He owned and sold a dozen and restored several, some of which he exported back to England, frequently going back and forth to England. He served as treasurer of the New England MGT Register for many years, and published MG magazine. He also founded Britbooks, an online British Car bookstore, co-founded North American MG Car registry, and published the book "Jaguar in America."
Ron served as Trustee and then Mayor of the Village of Otego for three terms, and on the Otsego County Election Commission. He was active in the local Democratic party for almost sixty years. As a devout Christian, he served as an Elder and Deacon at Otego Presbyterian for many years, as well as various roles in the Presbytery. His generosity, passion for civic improvement, and sharp sense of humor were the stuff of legend around Otego for decades. His booming laugh delighted his friends and the many people with whom he shared his time and vast knowledge of all things mechanical.
Ron was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Judith (Green) Embling, and his sister Phyllis. He is survived by his sister, Janet; sons, Donald (Cheri), David, and Robert; grandchildren, Lauren, Robert, and Cassie (Dustin); and great-grandchildren Hunter and Rosie.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 8 at Otego Presbyterian Church, 16 River Street.
