Oneonta, NY - ONEONTA - Sandra Laura Mack died on April 22, 2025. She was born on Aug. 29, 1941 to Florence (Brezee) and Walter Decker and was their only child. She lived all her life in Oneonta and loved growing up here during the 1950's. At that time, Oneonta, like most communities of its size, had a small-town atmosphere and life was simpler and slower paced. When she was young, she spent all her spare time in the parks, which she always considered to be Oneonta's greatest assets.
She was a private person, preferring her own company and that of a few close friends and family. She enjoyed walks in the parks, reading, gardening, nature, watching movies and feeding the many birds who frequented her feeders. She was an avid fan of Public Television and National Public Radio. She did some traveling, especially enjoying trips to historical places, but in general, preferred being home.
She loved and was very proud of her children and their mates, Patricia Pirone and Orson Moon, Kim and Walter Baskin and Michael and Maureen Pirone. Equally, she took great pride in her grandchildren, Hannah Baskin (Andrew Vitolo), Sam Baskin (Bay Vagher), Sadie Baskin and Lila Moon. Her first great-grandchild, Arlo Vitolo, was born in December. They survive her, along with her good friends, Donna Cahill and Paula Waghorn.
Sandra was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Bruce and dear friend K. Christine Flom. Her family is grateful for the care and comfort provided by her in-home care team in her final year of life. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services. Donations can be made in her memory to Helios Care, 297 River Street Service Road in Oneonta. Funeral arrangements are by Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley.
