Sonya Ann Skoglund
SOUTH NEW BERLIN - Sonya Ann Skoglund, 34, of South New Berlin, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020.
Sonya was born on Aug. 14, 1985, in Oneonta, the daughter of Peter Skoglund and Ann Marie Wright.
She graduated from Sidney High School, Class of 2003 and went on to take a CNA course for certification.
Sonya worked tirelessly as a CNA and certified home health aide for several agencies in the area. Her reward was helping people in need. She always commented on her one-on-one care with people and how she became bonded with them.
Sonya led a very hectic life, working an unknown schedule, nights, days, weekends, holidays and including double shifts.
Sonya was truly a compassionate person, besides her care-giving, she loved her pet dogs along with her special friends. She was always posting her life on social media, sunsets, bonfires and just hanging with friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Kailey Marie Lord; father, Peter Skoglund; mother, Ann. M. Skoglund; sister, Lisa M. Skoglund; Sonya's companion of the last few years, Jason Kuhn; and her close friend, Charly Aragona. Sonya had remained friends with Kailey's father, William Lord. She also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
She had so many friends who have reached out to her family that it is overwhelming. Her family sincerely acknowledges all outpourings of sympathy.
A public gathering to celebrate and reflect on Sonya's life will be held in the spring at a location and time to be determined.
Her burial will take place privately in Hillington Cemetery in Morris.
A memorial fund will be established and all proceeds will be given to her daughter, Kailey.
Her family has entrusted her care to the Johnston & Stanimer Funeral Home in Morris.
