Stanley A. "Stub" Hewitt Obituary

Stanley A. "Stub" Hewitt, 92, of Lake Delaware, Delhi, passed away on Monday morning, April 3, 2017 at Bassett Medical Center, following a short illness.

Born on April 23, 1924 in Margaretville, the son of the late, John W. and Laura (Alton) Hewitt. He grew up in Bovina and was a graduate of Andes Central School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was in Italy during the occupation of Europe. Following his honorable discharge, he returned home.

On December 13, 1947, he married Norah Travell Hewitt in Hobart, a union that lasted 63 years until her passing in 2010.

He was employed as a truck driver with Deltown Foods of Delhi, retiring after over 42 years of service.

He was a member of the American Legion Donald W. Gleason Post 190, Delhi and the Oneonta Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved to go camping throughout the Adirondacks. He and Norah also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

He is survived by his children, Lawrence (Jan) Hewitt of Priest River, Idaho; Lynda (Greg) Race of Knoxboro; Andrew (Cathie) Hewitt of Bovina; Normajean (John) Mehrman of Southhold; grandchildren, Larry, Patrick, Hazel, Dana, Erin, Krystina, Carrie, Jason, Tyler and Kesley; 19 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Bovina Cemetery, Bovina Center, with Lay Pastor, Deb Fleming officiating.
