Gilbertsville, NY - GILBERTSVILLE - Veronica "Ronnie" Meers, 79, of Gilbertsville, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2026.

Ronnie was born Sept. 14, 1946, in Queens, the daughter of late Arthur and Dominga Slater. On April 22, 1968, she married the love of her life, David Meers.

Ronnie received her degree in early childhood education at SUNY Cobleskill. She worked as a secretary in New York City for a year and then enrolled at SUNY Oneonta, where she met her husband, David, who was attending Hartwick College. They moved to Dave's hometown of Gilbertsville, where she enjoyed learning country, homemaking and sewing skills from her mother-in-law, Tess, and where her son, Jeff, could have adventures with all his aunts and uncles.

Ronnie worked as a waitress for a few years at Brooks' and then worked as an assistant and teacher at Head Start schools in Laurens, Oneonta and Bainbridge. In 1977, she started as a district secretary at Gilbertsville Central School. She retired from the same school after 29 years in 2006.

She is survived by her son, Jeff, and his wife, Jennifer, and her granddaughters Katlyn (Kyle) and Meghan (Galen); sisters Patricia (Len) and Virginia; siblings-in-law Marty (Jenn), Dan, John, Tina, Kelly, Jerome (Karen), Terence and Mary (Steve). She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Bill.

Ronnie's family is truly grateful for the daily help that her friends gave her by getting the mail, feeding the birds, delivering goodies and more. Another true joy for Ronnie was Scrabble days with her good friends.

As she wished, there will be no calling hours or service. The interment will be held privately.
