New Lisbon, NY - NEW LISBON - Virginia A. Schoradt, 93, died Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at Cooperstown Center, Cooperstown, while she was rehabilitating from hip replacement surgery following a fall at her home in New Lisbon.
She was born June 27, 1933 in Farmingdale, New Jersey, the daughter of Richard and Mary Elizabeth (Helmick) Allen. She married George Schoradt in Garrattsville, on Dec. 28, 1952. After graduating from Morris Central School (Class of 1951), she went on to attain a degree in Nursing from Hartwick College. Upon graduation, she became a housewife and mother, following her husband in his peripatetic career as an engineer in radar development with the Army and then the Navy. Upon his retirement, they returned to New Lisbon and bought a farm around the corner from her parents. Pursuing her interest in local history, she became the New Lisbon Town Historian and a board member of the Otsego County Historical Association, serving in these capacities for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Karin Schoradt and her husband, Robert Gann, of New Lisbon; grandson, Geofre Schoradt and his wife, Mary Etta, of Fairfax, Virginia; grandson, Schuyler Gann and his wife, Elizabeth, of Williston, Vermont; and great-granddaughters, Anne Marie Schoradt, Georgianna Schoradt, and Eleanor Schoradt, all of Fairfax, Virginia. She was predeceased by her husband, George Schoradt; parents, Richard and Mary Allen; and sister, Mary Hughes.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours and the funeral will be private. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Lena Cemetery Association, C/O, Victor Jones, 225 County Highway 59, Cooperstown, NY 13326.
