DELHI - Walter Arthur Cronauer passed away on March 9, 2023, at Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Delhi, following a long and courageous battle with myeloma cancer.

He was born Oct. 15, 1930, on the family farm in Franklin, to Alexander H. Cronauer and Martha (Boning) Cronauer.

Walter graduated from Franklin Central School in 1949. He was an honor student and excelled in sports. He was chosen for all-star status in baseball and basketball. He participated in drama club and was a member of the EC Fraternity. After high school he attended and graduated from Renouard College in NYC with a degree in mortuary sciences. He was then employed at Joyce Funeral Home in Unadilla, and also worked on the family farm. He was later employed at Unalam, Oneonta Public Transit, and continued to work on the family farm. He retired after driving school bus for Franklin Central School for 25 years.

Walter is survived by his sister-in-law and caregiver Joan Cronauer; niece, Robin (Richard) Brower; great-nephew, Jason Brower and his daughter, Leah Brower; and great-niece, Amy (Corey) Schmitz and their sons, Ezra Schmitz and Silas Schmitz.

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert Cronauer; niece, Suzanne (Cronauer) DeVost; and aunt, Helena Cronauer.

Walter requested that no calling hours or funeral service be held. Burial will be in Ouleout Cemetery at a later date.

The family is very grateful to Helios Care for the outstanding care and support given to Walter during his long illness. Special thanks go to Helios Care caregivers Paula, Jenn, and Mark for their kindness, devotion and professionalism during his final days.
