Worcester, NY - WORCESTER - Wanda R. Welbert, 104, passed away peacefully on Sept. 10, 2025.
She was born July 21, 1921 in Gothicville, to Ernest and Lela Reed. The family lived in South Valley and Worcester as she grew up. She met her husband, Raymond Welbert, when he joined his family in South Valley after serving in World War II. They were married in Sept. of 1950.
After graduation from Cherry Valley Central School, Wanda worked as a secretary at CVCS for several years before joining the Cherry Valley bank as a bookkeeper and teller. During World War II she aided the war effort by working at Schenectady General Electric alongside her sisters, Alleine Osborn and Ruth Reed. In 1957 she went to work at the Bugbee Campus School in Oneonta and later moved to the SUCO campus as the secretary for the Science Department, retiring after 30 years. Wanda was an avid reader, interested in politics and enjoyed watching Fox News.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; sisters, Alleine Osborn and Ruth Reed; and nephew, Reginald (Jon) Osborn.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane; nieces, Marlene Thompson (Walter), Pamela Zerbe (Ron); great nieces, Stacia Barrett and Kimberly Thomas (Jim); great nephew, Kyle Osborn (Stacy), and their families.
A funeral service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester. The Rev. Judith Thistle will be officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.
